My Input Method
Saturday, January 19th, 2008
Hey, aren’t you tried of your QWERTY keyboard yet?
Tried of it? Did anyone tell you that’s it’s not the only option? Just like how general public thought IE is not the only browser, does Dvorak sounds to you like Firefox to them?
This was written in February 2005, and now, January 2008, I am migrating this to here. It was written with Chinese and English mixed, but now with the new tools, I am going to fill up the details.
Go! A New Way To Input!
As a English computer users, have you ever wonder how Chinese users type Chinese? No, we don’t have a keyboard with thousands of keys :). We actually all type the words indirectly, in some kind of predefined combination, and there are many different input methods on the market. It’s mainly falls into two campus-One based on the pronunciation, and actually it gets much more popular as the software can do smart-selection/compound word learning much better now. But in the era of 640k and holding an dictionary in memory is considered impossible, almost all usable Chinese input method are based on character strokes and shape.
I bet you already know keyboards looks different in US and UK? However, AFAIK most Latin users’ keyboard layout are something derived from QWERTY. However, as a very first invented technology that’s designed for typing, there is a lot of room for improvement.
Well…and at the same time, I had too much time to burn in my summer holiday. Let’s do something exciting.
